Victories, Orbs, & Angels: Byzantine Coins from the Collection
January 30, 2009 to June 27, 2010
On the reverse of his coins, Phocas continued the tradition of depicting an angel holding a globus cruciger and a staff surmounted by a christogram (a monogram of the Greek words for Jesus Christ). The obverse features his portrait with a beard, which was a new motif that later emperors adopted.
