January 30, 2009 to June 27, 2010
Similar to Roman designs, coins minted during Theodosius II’s reign depict the emperor as a warrior, in cuirass (body armor) and helmet, holding a spear and shield. The reverse of the coin is dedicated to a personification of the capital Constantinople, shown holding a scepter and victoriola, a Victory surmounted on a globe, which later transformed into the Christian symbol of the globus cruciger (cross atop a globe).
